Greetings
Congratulations to all players, coaches, refs and parents for one of the best fall seasons ever. All divisions experienced competive balance and excitement throughout the season. This coming fall season looks to be just as balanced and exciting.

The Board would like to thank the local business community for their support through team sponsorships, and look forward to continuing these relationships.

Registrations for the 2003 fall season are due by June 16, 2003. Registrations received before May 31, 2003 are eligible for discounts. On Thursday, May 29, 2003, NKSA will hold a registration night at Cold Spring Community Center, from 7:00pm - 8:30pm. Any questions regarding Unit placement, Coed vs All Girls, and age bracket clarification can be answered at that time.

It is the objective of this organization to continue to create and encourage a positive environment that will provide opportunities and challenges for our children, while allowing them to have fun, learn, progress and achieve. We as parents and volunteers can reduce the number of children that dropout of sport, if we are successful in creating a positive experience for all participating children. Please see a current board member and find out how your individual efforts can help our children.

Referee Information
The NKSA is in need of referees. Any person 12 years or older, including adults, can be trained to become a referee. If interested, send your name, phone #, and e-mail information to nksoccerrefs@cox.net. Our goal is to have enough people to have a local training clinic before next fall. The Board encourages former players and parents to become refs.

Pre-Unit 1
Pre-unit 1 Now offered in Spring and Fall !!!!

Due to the success of the Fall program for 4 to 7 year olds, parents have asked for a Spring season for these young and upcoming soccer players. Registration forms have been mailed out for a spring soccer clinic, held on Tuesday nights, from 5:00pm to 6:00pm, beginning April 22, 2003. Experienced coaches will provide a fun environment where children can learn basic soccer skills, with the emphasis on learning. You may contact Mary-Kate Mulligan at mulliganfore@netscape.net with questions or registration information.

Volunteers
To be a successful organization we rely on volunteers to work the concessions and participate on the Board of Directors. All teams will be asked that parents volunteer to work the concessions during the fall season as well as the Fathers Day Tournment. Please step forward and give our children an example of how easy it is to volunteer. We are always seeking new Board members that bring new ideas and that maintain the continued success of the programs. It is time well spent ensuring that the NKSA and NKSC continue to provide our children with quality soccer experiences and growth. If interested in becoming a Board member please contact Tony White at 294-8293.

NKSA Statement of Philosophy
Founded on the following principles, and they represent the ideals under which the league operates:
That the league is open, with equal opportunity to all; boys and girls, young and old, beginners and advanced;
That learning and maturing, and striving and skill go hand in hand cooperatively;

That we keep the idea of sports a pleasurable activity;
That having a good time is as important as understanding the competitive aspects of winning and losing;
That we specialize in good sportsmanship;
That "respect" is the major characteristic ---- That the highest standards of personal conduct are expected of all players, coaches, and spectators at all times;
That we foster and accentuate teamwork; and;
That we expand the idea of teamwork to instill a sense of "community," by this we mean to include teammates, coaches, parents, opposing teams, sponsors, and board members; and; That we work together as a whole unit and mutually take pride in the accomplishments of the league.

North Kingstown Soccer Club
For those that are new to soccer, NKSC is the competitive program of North Kingstown Soccer Association. The season begins on April 5th for 16 teams from U8 to U19. Games are played in the spring around the state. Unlike NKSA, teams are determined based on tryouts and performance during the fall season.

The annual North Kingstown Fathers Day Tournament planning is under way and parents should be prepared to volunteer a few hours during that weekend to ensure a successful tournament for those visiting out of town teams. Remember we are the host organization and we benefit from the continued success of this tournament.
